The events calendar lists the flagship conferences of the platforms enterprises buy and build on, with dates checked against the organisers. This is the shorter list: where to go depending on what you're buying or selling, and what to do while you're there.
If you're choosing a cloud or platform partner
The partner halls at AWS re:Invent and Microsoft Ignite are the two largest gatherings of IT services companies anywhere, and every consultancy with a cloud practice is in one or both. Walk the hall with a shortlist drawn from the directory, not the other way round; the hall is too big to browse. KubeCon North America is the smaller, more technical version for platform engineering and managed Kubernetes, and the sponsor list is a shortlist in itself.
If you're choosing a data platform
Go to one of the platform summits and one of the neutral ones. Snowflake Summit and Data + AI Summit are a fortnight apart in San Francisco each June, and the partner expos tell you who delivers each platform at scale. The Microsoft Fabric Community Conference does the same for Fabric. For a neutral view, the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit puts the platforms side by side, and Big Data LDN does it free in London.
If you run SAP, ServiceNow, Salesforce or Workday
The vendor flagships are where the implementation partners concentrate, and the partner pavilions are set up for exactly the meetings you need. SAP Sapphire (Orlando or Barcelona), ServiceNow Knowledge, Dreamforce and Workday Rising each have a customer-story track where the real programme timelines come out. If your team is technical, SAP TechEd is the smaller, deeper SAP event.
If you're a vendor scouting a market
GITEX Global in Dubai is the way into the Gulf, where buyers expect to meet new suppliers and national pavilions make exhibiting affordable. Web Summit is broad and noisy but unmatched for meeting European companies in a few days. Bengaluru Tech Summit pairs international buyer delegations with Indian providers, and the nasscom Technology & Leadership Forum is the senior version.
If you're setting next year's strategy
The Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo is where CIOs benchmark budgets and priorities, and the Xpo floor is where providers pitch to them. Expensive, and worth it once every couple of years.
Make the trip count
- Register early: hotel blocks and early-bird passes go months ahead, and visa letters take weeks.
- Shortlist first, from the directory, then book meetings before you fly.
- Mark yourself as going on the event page. Buyers see who else is going; vendors on a paid plan see which buyer organisations are, so they can plan who to meet.
- Follow up inside the platform afterwards, where the conversation stays with the project.
